STACEY NELSON

Stacey Nelson began her career in law enforcement oversight as a jail monitor for the Los Angeles County Office of Inspector General in 2014, immediately after graduating law school.  She began working with OIR Group in 2022, and also currently teaches a course on oversight at Loyola Law School.    

Stacey's first professional career was that of a professional athlete. For a few years after college, she played for the US National Softball Team and in for Honda Motors Softball Club in Tochigi, Japan. After transitioning from athletics, Stacey graduated from Loyola Law School in 2014; she began work with the Los Angeles County Office of Inspector General as a jail monitor that fall. Although Stacey focused most of her work on the jail and custody issues, she was able to participate in monitoring of patrol functions as well. She has experience in compliance monitoring for a federal lawsuit, reviewing a countless number of force investigations, monitoring of the use of restrictive housing, real-time monitoring of administrative investigations, and responding to critical incidents. 

From 2018-2019, Stacey took a year's leave and moved to Pader, Uganda to pursue a passion project which ignited a decade prior. Stacey returned to Los Angeles in 2019 to continue her career in oversight.
